As an undergraduate, Ann sang with the V-8's at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA (the oldest continuing women's collegiate a cappella group in the nation, as they like to point out). She directed the V-8's but never got to tour or record an album, so there was always something missing. During dental school at USC, she saw a flier advertising auditions for a new group. She had no time for such foolishness but she didn't care. It was her destiny.
The VoCals were a dream come true for several reasons: a chance to sing with a co-ed group (Mount Holyoke is a women's college), a Midwest tour (Hit the
Road '98), an album (This Ain't No Choir, Babe), and a wonderful husband (huh?). Yes, on June 16, 2001, Ann married fellow founding member Matt MacPhail at the USC Catholic Center. Of course, the bride and groom joined the VoCals for a concert during the reception and Town & Gown.
Currently, Ann lives in San Jose where she has taken a break from dentistry to raise Gabriel and Lucas, the first two pure-blood VoCal kids. What mission could be more important? She and Matt run a recording studio called News At Eleven Productions where Ann records voiceovers for film and corporate narration, telephone messaging radio imaging, video games and commercials.
